Come and join in on a LIVE broadcast
(via webcam) while Tom builds one of his projects. Follow along and even
discuss the project with Tom using the Ventrilo (VOIP-like) program.
NOTE: If
at all possible, please send an email (CLICK
HERE) if you are interested in a broadcast (as programs can often get
cancelled if there appears to be little or no interest. If possible, I
might even customize a broadcast for you.
Set up
Ventrilo as follows:
Download, Install and Run the Ventrilo
Client Software (versions 2.1.3. or 2.1.4 will work only)
To the far right
of "User Name", press the right arrow to create a new username
Select "New" and
type in a user name (other info is optional), then press OK
To the far right
of "Server", press the right arrow to create a new server name
Select "New" and
enter the DIYRC server name (diyrc.homeip.net).
"Port" should remain at 3784, and other info is optional (no PW required)
Under "Bindings",
you should not have to change anything
Before
connecting, you should also set up the controls as follows:
Press the
"Setup..." button and then select the "Voice" tab (probably the only tab items
you need to change)
Checkmark "Enable
Outgoing Comms...", "Use Push-to-Talk...", and "Use DirectInput..."
Click in the "HotKey"
box and then hit a key on your keyboard to select your "Walkie-Talkie" key (you
will then need to press this key in order to talk on Ventrilo, I use my left
control key)
The items on the
right side control all the sound card settings but for the most part, you should
be able to use the defaults. If you are having issues, please feel free to
email "Webmaster" at DIYRC.com prior to the broadcast and we'll see if we can get things all
worked out for you.
After selecting a
username and server name you previously set up, press "Connect" to connect to the DIYRC.com Ventrilo
Server. After connecting, all you have to do is listen and press the "hot
key" you previously programmed in order to talk/transmit. Also, be
sure your speakers are powered on and the volume turned up.
